....usually switch on your camera when you sign in to Zoom Meetings?
If yes, why?
If no, why not?
...really want to be heard?
If yes, why?
If no, why not?
...really want to engage others?
If yes, why?
If no, why not?
I'm curious because in pre-Covid times, more women than I care to count, lamented to me about longing to be better seen and heard when seated around the table at work. It's a well-documented widespread issue and as you might expect, the struggle continues in Covid too.
I can't speak to the systemic challenges underlying this phenomenon, and I can't raise your awareness on the quality of your communication right now. But I can say, without reservation, that people will more likely hear you if they can see you on the screen. It appears that more women than men are reluctant to turn on their camera when virtually meeting.
If this is you, I encourage you to find a solution to help you more comfortably switch on your camera. One convert I know goes the turtleneck route, another uses virtual backgrounds and another still, serves up her authentic self and finds it empowering and liberating. One that note, I am sharing one of my personal anthems very appropriately titled VIDEO by India.Arie.
